Summary
The Medical Case collection consists of proceedings and supporting documents in English and German (some in German only), and is indexed by subject. The 23 defendants were charged with: conspiracy; crimes against humanity; membership in a criminal organization; and conducting cruel and unethical medical experiments on civilians and p.o.w.'s involving high-altitudes, freezing, malaria, mustard gas, sulfanilamides, bone and organ transplants, sea-water, jaundice, sterilization, typhus, poisons, and incendiary bombs.
The defendants were: Karl Brandt, Siegfried Handloser, Paul Rostock, Oskar Schroeder, Karl Genzken, Karl Gebhardt, Kurt Blome, Rudolf Brandt, Joachim Mrugowsky, Helmut Poppendick, Wolfram Sievers, Gerhard Rose, Siegfried Ruff, Hans Wolfgang Romberg, Viktor Brack, Hermann Becker-Freyseng, Georg August Weltz, Konrad Schäfer, Waldemar Hoven, Wilhelm Beiglböck, Adolf Pokorny, Herta Oberheuser, Fritz Fischer.

Historical Data
One of 12 war crimes trials of Nazis conducted by the American Military Tribunals after World War II, in Nuremberg, Germany. The case ran from Oct. 25, 1946 to Nov. 25, 1947 and involved 23 Nazi defendants all of whom were either physicians or affiliated with medical organizations.
