Item description from vendor's accompanying document: (N.Y. Law Manuscript) Manuscript of the firm of Bullard, Cramer & Ormsby, Waterford, Saratoga County, NY. Supreme court proceedings. Two folio volumes (1849-1861), 385pp.; (1861-1875), 560[sic]pp. A lengthy record of a prominent and successful law practice written in numerous hands. Partners were John Cramer (1779-1870), Edward Fitch Bullard (1821-1870) and Isaac C. [Or]msby (1820-1892). Briefs notes on summons, judgements, court actions, appearances, complaints. Ormsby was quite famous as a criminal lawyer who prosecuted the infamous Billings Murder (1878) and the Waterford Bank robbers (1871). Full reversed calf binding, worn and scuffed.

Includes entries on the cases of the New York Supreme Court of Saratoga County, the County of Seneca, and Albany County.
Both volumes feature Cambridge-style binding with tooling and marbled end-papers; volume 2 features additional leather binding on the fore-edge corners. The lined text block paper is browing at edges; newspaper clippings about the firm's cases involving "Mortgage sales" can be found both affixed and loose. V.1 has hand-numbered pages, while volume 2 has printed page numbers. In volume 2 the manuscript continues to page 564; red ink is introduced on page 214; "I. C. Ormsby 1860" is inscribed on the front fly-leaf; a worn sticker adorns the front board, inside on the upper left corner: Moore & N[ims] Booksellers Stationers & Printers, Troy, NY, 9 & 10 Cannon [...].
A card advertisement is inserted in volume 1 (A manuscript note on the reverse dates the card to 1849): Hartford Fire Insurance Co. Incorporated 1810. Hartford, Conn. [...] John H. Dennis, Agent. Waterford, N.Y.
"Bullard, Cramer & Ormsby register. We begin as equal partners this day in suits to be hereafter commenced. Dec. 22, 1852."--V. [1], page 45.
