The Reichstag fire trial, September 21, 1933 to December 23, 1933, was held before the Fourth penal chamber of the Supreme court of the German reich; the accused being Marinus van der Lubbe, Ernst Torgler, Georgi Dimitroff, Blagei Popoff and Wassil Taneff. On December 23, 1933, presiding Justice Wilhelm Bünger pronounced a verdict of guilty against van der Lubbe for high treason in the overt act of insurrectionary arson and on January 19, 1934 the condemned was sentenced to death. The other defendants were acquitted
