Summary
1842 resolutions by the Illinois General Assembly seeking the refund of a $1,000 fine paid by General Andrew Jackson following his declaration of martial law in New Orleans during the campaign of 1814-15; and transmitted to the Virginia General Assembly by Viriginia Governor Jas. M'Dowell. Of note, the former president sought this refund as a show of support for martial law during what he considered as a national emergency.
