Summary
The Board of War met on a daily basis. The minutes record the proceedings of those meetings, including decisions reached at them. A considerable portion of the minutes reflects the heavy involvement of the board in the fiscal and business management of the war effort. Daily entries list the date and members present at each meeting, followed by a list of orders issued by the board that day. Most orders deal with the business of provisioning and outfitting military personnel. These orders, and their corresponding cash amounts, can be tracked by date into other Board of War books of account. Minutes are complete for the period from Nov. 1776 through Sept. 1780. Those from Oct. 1780 through Jan. 1781 are incomplete.
