New Netherland Council minutes from 1638 to 1665, and contained in volumes 4 - 10. The manuscript minutes are not very legible, although there are printed calendars preceding the manuscripts in each volume, which list the date and general topic discussed. Included are resolutions, ordinances, court proceedings, appointments, and petitions. These calendars were taken from the Calendar of Historical Manuscripts, volume 1. Of note, the volumes contained salvaged material from the 1911 Capitol fire in Albany; some were totally burned. Thus there are no minutes from August 2, 1649 to January 1652. There is also no volume 7, as the papers and documents original in that volume are entries and letters between March 2, 1655 to September 19, 1656; duplicates of which are in part of volumes 6 and 8. There are also other missing pages in other parts of these volumes.

Volume numbering is the numbering of a collection at the New York State Archives arranged by E.B. O'Callaghan and described in his Calendar of historical manuscripts that has been retained for ease of reference.
