Summary
Header: At a Council held at Philadelphia Tuesday 30th August 1757. Present: the Governor and some Council members, with Chief Teedyuscung and one other native. The Chief spoke first. As he was on his way home from the last Council, he met messengers from the Ohio Delaware. Certain of them regretted raising the hatchet against the English and wanted to know if the Chief had his peace treaty yet. They promised not to lift the hatchet until they heard from him. The Chief sent a message back saying not to let the French know--he would see the Governor right away. The Chief had brought wampum belts to the Governor and wanted to join everyone's belt in peace and put the hatchet in the Governor's hand, edge toward the French. He wanted the Governor to build a fort at Wyoming to protect the Indians in the vicinity. The Governor was very happy with the news. However, the Chief was annoyed that Johnson was still involved in the settlement of land claims. The treaty still had not been printed, so the Chief went into a rage about that. He threatened to sail for England and speak to the King. There the document ended.
