Summary
Intelligence of John Adam Long, a prisoner made his escape from the Baccaloons on the Ohio. Fort Cumberland Sep. 30, 1756 Mr. Long, 55, came into the Fort on the 29th. he had been taken prisoner in April on the Virginia frontier. He was taken directly to Fort Duquesne. At the end of April, there were about 200 soldiers, but it was heavily reinforced and provisioned in early June. He was taken to Vaningo for a time, and then to Backeloons, about forty miles upriver from the Fort. He escaped in mid-August, so it took him about seven weeks to reach Fort Cumberland. He observed that the Mingos had decided to lay down the hatchet, but the French then cut them off from provisions. Long thought other Indians could be induced to come over to the English.
