Summary
Copy of a letter from Wm. Peters to Governor Morris, fall of 1755. Peters had been ordered by Hamilton to send papers describing "the miserable situation the Province is in." Large areas of the country were "deserted by the inhabitants and that the Indians are wasting and destroying all before them as fast as they can." Hamilton planned to use government funds to raise an army and to build blockhouses as far northwest as Shamokin, and indicated that those trying to arrange a meeting with friendly Indians were doomed to failure. He then told the governor of information received from Commodore Franklin about a ship that had recently arrived in Philadelphia with 1000 Gold Coast natives and actual gold, all being sold in town.
