April 17, 1776 remonstrance of John Burrowes, a wealthy merchant, to the Committee of Safety about further requisitions of men from Monmouth County, New Jersey. The Opening text: "To the Honorable Committee of Safety for the Colony of New Jersey now visiting at New [Brunswick?] the Committee of the County of Monmouth beg permission to remonstrate, That notwithstanding there is at this time an actual invasion within this district of a large number of their constituents now in actual service ..."
