Summary
Lt. Col. Armstrong's account of his expedition to Kittaning. Fort Littleton September 14, 1756. [to Lieutenant Governor William Denny] This is a closely written letter with considerable ink loss. Armstrong reported in great detail about his battle with a settlement of Indians. He was unhappy with a forward observer who moved too soon, thus giving their position away, and a sergeant and some soldiers who deserted. While the troops killed many Indians, destroyed a lot of property, and freed eleven prisoners, they were forced to retreat and suffered many losses during that time. The final toll was seventeen killed, thirteen wounded, including Armstrong, and nineteen missing. Armstrong asked if he should send the prisoners to Philadelphia or to their homes.
