Summary
Report of the Louisiana Senate Committee on Education on the State Seminary of Learning. The school was originally planned due to federal land grants of public land to support seminaries of learning. Mention is made of a seminary fund, but it is not defined. Noted are years of mis-steps; a building was delivered in 1859, a faculty was selected, and fifty students were enrolled for the military-style school. It was in operation at the time of the report. Included are several pages of cost estimates for the operation of the school, submitted by W.T. Sherman, Superintendent.
