Summary
Copy of Intelligence August 4, 1759. Two spies from Venango said the French there had learned that Fort Niagara was under attack, with heavy losses on both sides. Those at Venango expected the British to take the Fort. William Johnson had threatened to take a force across the lakes to attack Detroit, so its civilians were being evacuated. Forty-five Indians appeared to say that more of the western Indians were two days behind them who wanted to learn about the peace. Indians who had been at Presque Isle confirmed the news about Fort Niagara
