"Mr. Hopkins, of the committee appointed in the affair of Mr. Dormenon, made the following report: The Committee charged to examine and make report touching the character of Mr. Peter Dormenon (Representative from the county of Point Coupee) in relation to the opinion of the hon. Joshua Lewis, pronounced on the [blank] day of [blank] one thousand eight hundred and [blank] on a rule previously entered on the records of the superior court of the Territory of Orleans, in consequence of a motion made by Mr. Peter Derbigny, counsellor at law for that purpose: ... It is ordered, that Pierre Dormenon shew cause ... why his name as attorney and counsellor at law, should not be stricken off the rolls of said court for having (as is alleged under oath) headed, aided and assisted the negroes of St. Domingo in the horrible massacres and other outrages against the whites, in and about the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety three. ... Your committee further report that they feel they are paying a just tribute to justice when they, give it as their opinion, that Mr. Dormenon is innocent of the charge alleged against him."--Page [i, v].
