Note
Includes two documents. The first, which is headed "Important to Common School Teachers and Committees," presents text of Section 4 of "An act, to amend the common schools laws," passed by the Legislature of 1858-1859. This section gives laws related to common school registers. The second document, entitled" Common schools : the law," discusses Section 34 of the common school law, and includes a table which gives amounts due for each of 42 districts and the names of committee members for each district. This is followed by a memorandum from A.J. Yorke (Chairman Board Sup. Com. Schools, for Cabarrus Co.) to members of committees, explaining their terms and the importance of reporting names and numbers of children in each district to allow proper distribution of the School Fund. The memorandum is dated April 18, 1859.
