A copy of Conrad Weiser's journal of a trip to Onondago. Weiser said the French had made great inroads with the Six Nations, etc., "we are in danger of forfeiting this friendship forever." The Six Nations feel somewhat superior to the western Indians, but the western Indians see no reason to bow to the Six Nations, so it is a difficult negotiating situation. The writer thought it was still best to work with the Six Nations. The writer would urge the Assembly to authorize a significant present soon; New York and Virginia were preparing for that. Some pro-English chiefs had died; the current head of the Six Nations was Catholic and pro-French. Weiser could not negotiate for the sale of the Juniata lands because there were not enough tribes present in Onondago.
