Summary
John Hackett to Wm. Allen with an amount of murders in [illegible] Dec. 19, 1755. Possible envelope: To the Honorable Thomas Penn Esquire at his house [illegible] New Street, Spring Gardens, Charing Cross. Header: List of the persons killed and houses burnt in the Menesinks[?] and Forks of the Delaware in Northampton County, viz: The list showed 41 houses burned. The list of people was not as specific, but dozens of people either died or were taken. A description of the desolation followed, with an emphasis on unburied bodies. The letter railed against the Administration's failure to react, counterposing the efforts of the local people to pursue the raiders. Hackett's letter was written at Union Iron Works. Bottom of the page: Copy of a letter from Messrs. Allen and Turner's Clerk.
