Summary
Report of a joint investigative committee inquiring into charges of corruption by banks seeking to gain favorable legislation from 1836-1840. The committee determined that while the Bank of the United States attempted and intended corruption and bribery, there was not indication that any money exchanged hands for that purpose. While other discrepancies occurred, the committee determined that insufficient time and the scope of the committee charge prevented further conclusion. Testimony and index are included in the report.
