Note
Minority committee report, signed at end by James T. Leavitt, Ira Fish, and Isaac M. Hobbs. The report is in reference to the request for reimbursement of expenses by Valentine Ripley. Ripley was pressed into service in assisting an officer arrest a person wanted by a warrant. The person being arrested was in the home of James Murdock, who subsequently brought charges against Ripley for assault and battery. The report includes lists of claims: Cost of witnesses summoned by defendant at Buckfield, In January, 1851, on trial of prosecution against Valentine Ripley; Counsel fees, time and expenses of Valentine Ripley, in defending prosecution against him for his doings as aid to an officer; and Cost of witnesses at the trial in the Supreme Court, in October, 1851, James Murdock vs. Valentine Ripley. The report is followed by a "Statement of facts, etc., annexed to the petition of Valentine Ripley to the Legislature of the State of Maine, for reimbursement."
