Caption title.
Report related to two banks named Hallowell and Augusta Bank, and whether notes issued by the first, which was incorporated in 1804, ought to be paid by the second, which was incorporated in 1812. The same persons were involved as president and directors of both banks. After the bank's directors moved to liquidate assets in favor of stockholders (at the expense of note holders), the legislature launched an investigation, and the affected note holders filed lawsuits in an attempt to recover their losses.
