"The undersigned, to whom, by an order of both branches of the Legislature, passed on the fifth day of April, A.D. 1836, was referred the petition of the town of New Salem, praying for a division of that town into two separate towns; and also the several petitions of John Putnam and others, praying that a part of the town of New Salem and the whole of Little Grant, (so called), may be annexed to the town of Orange; of Jonathan Orcutt and others, praying that the easterly part of Erving's Grant may be annexed to said town of Orange; and of James J. Sanderson and others, praying that a certain part of New Salem may be annexed to the town of Athol ..."--Page 3.
