Summary
Mr. Meriam submitted an order on March 11, 1841. The Governor would appoint five men to inquire into a state purchase of the Canal and West Boston Bridges. Tolls would be allowed to recoup the purchase price and build a repair fund. The men should also see if a town would be willing to manage the bridges and should work out a plan for the bridges to be public highways. The Legislature would expect a report at its next session.
