Summary
On February 18, 1841, the Committee on Education reported on an order to reduce the expenses of or even abolish the state's Board of Education. Expenses could be cut by printing a smaller annual report, which the Secretary of the Board planned to do, cutting the cost to $300-400 per year. The Committee did not think the Board should be abolished, so no legislation was necessary. The minority report included: An Act relating to the Board of Education and the Normal Schools, 1841. The Act of 1837 creating the Board of Education was repealed, as was the requirement for a uniform school register and a uniform statistical reporting form. The requirement for any statistical report was repealed. Supervision of the Normal Schools was transferred to the Governor and the Council.
