Summary
Contains a document from the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society and a report of the Massachusetts Joint Special Committee on Slavery with regard to a proposed law that would suppress abolition societies in Massachusetts and declare the circulation of abolitionist publications a penal offense. The Anti-Slavery Society claims that they were not granted full hearing of their arguments against the legislation, which they argued would infringe on Massachusetts citizens' freedom of expression; the Committee, in response, asserts that the Society's representatives were cut off due to "a vehemence both of language and manner, and an open avowal of their determination to pursue their object at all hazards" (page 6).
