Summary
Report of the Massachusetts House Committee on the Judiciary in response to a memorial to impeach Jeremiah Colgrove, Justice of the Peace. Colgrove was alleged to be "corrupt and unprincipled in the administration of justice," and to have heard cases when drunk. A specific case was cited in which Colgrove was alleged to have altered a complaint. The Committee took depositions and heard witnesses, and concluded that the evidence was vague, the charge related to drunkenness had been withdrawn, and that there were mitigating circumstances for the alteration charge. The Committee declined to impeach. The report is signed at end by Geo. Bliss.
