"The Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred an order of January 20th, directing them to inquire into the expediency of 'restoring the writ de homine replegiando, or of providing some other process by which one under personal restraint may try his right to liberty before a jury and to whom was also referred the petition of Gilbert H. Durfee and others, citizens of Fall River, praying the passage of such laws as will secure to those claimed as slaves in this Commonwealth a trial by jury,' and other petitions in aid of the same object, beg leave respectfully to report."--Page 3.
