"The cashiers of the several banks, and the clerks or secretaries of any other incorporated companies in this Commonwealth, in which stock is liable to be taxed, on the written request of the assessors of any city, town or district, shall furnish such assessors with a written return, under the signatures of the said cashiers, clerks or secretaries respectively, specifying the number of shares or amount of stock owned, on the first day of May next preceding the date of said request, by each stockholder residing in such city, town or district."--Page [1]-2.
