"The Committee appointed at the last session of the Legislature, to take into consideration the condition of the native Indians and descendants of native Indians, in this Commonwealth; to inquire whether any, and if any, what further provision, by law, is necessary for their protection, government, and instruction, and for settling controversies between said Indians and the neighboring whites, to which committee was referred the petition of Samuel Peters and others, natives of Chappequiddie in the county of Dukes county praying ... Also, The petition of Cornelius Haxford, and others praying for 'a remedy against the further encroachments of the blacks on the Island of Chappequiddie, and that provision may be made, for settling the disputes, relative to the division fence between said blacks and the white inhabitants and proprietors on said island ..."--Page [1]-[2].
