Summary
1826 legislation in Massachusetts making provision for the trial and punishment of felonies. It is lawful for any party aggrieved by an opinion, direction, or judgment of the Municipal Court to allege exceptions in writing and to present them to the judge. If the allegations conformed to the case, the case would be halted until the next term of the Supreme Judicial Court. That Court would consider the situation and render a judgment or order a new trial. If the case was not heard in that first session, then the Municipal Court decision stood. If the appellant was already in jail, they had to remain there until the appeal was heard unless bail was granted. No other appeals from the Municipal Court were allowed.
