Summary
"That there is now pending before this General Court, the Petition of Samuel Hinckley and others, praying for the extension of the Hampshire and Hampden Canal to the north line of the Commonwealth, having an ultimate view to its further extension to the north line of the States of New Hampshire and Vermont. The Petitioners are now prepared to show, by the actual survey of a Civil Engineer, made since the session of the General Court in May last, and by unquestionable evidence, not known to the Petitioners at the time of the session of the said General Court, that the construction of a Canal from Northampton to the north line of the Commonwealth, and thence on to Brattleborough in the State of Vermont, is not only practicable, but may be made with great facility, and extended to Canada Line; and further state that there is abundant reason to believe that ample funds may be obtained for that purpose."
