"The undersigned, citizens of Maine, respectfully request, your honorable body, to cause to be surveyed and ascertained, the most practicable route for a railway from the city of Bangor, to the eastern boundary of the state, in the general direction of the city of St. John, New Brunswick, and to take further action in the premises as will tend to favor the construction of a railroad from the city of Bangor, to some good harbor on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, or Cape Breton, best fitted to become the entreport and terminus for the most direct line of trans-atlantic navigation."--Page 1.
