Summary
Petition addressed to the Senate and House of Representatives of Michigan. The petition opens, "On or about the middle of December last, some twenty-two students of the Michigan University were conditionally expelled there-from for belonging, as was charged against them, to secret literary societies connected with the University, whose constitutions had not been submitted to and approved by the Faculty." The petitioners note that the law forbidding the societies was problematic, having not been enforced, and that the actions of the Faculty and Board of Regents were hasty. They propose the need for a reorganization of the University and state.
