Summary
Petition from several persons to Michigan Legislature about a canal being constructed near the Grand Rapids River in Grand Rapids. Issues discussed include a contract with James Davis which was not being fulfilled, needed land rights not having been secured by the state, and a lack of estimates for work. The petitioners asked for a two-year extension to complete the canal, locks, and dam, that the state secure land rights, that the state appropriate money to the petitioners to complete the work, and that the petitioners be given the same terms as were given to James Davis. The document is signed by S.O. Kingsbury, W.D. Foster, John M. Fox, Amos Roberts, Wm. Haldane, Z.G. Winsor, and John Ball.
