Summary
Report of the Michigan Committee on Federal Relations in support of a canal around the falls of Niagara. In its conclusion, the committee notes, "When it is considered that produce and merchandise may be carried to the sea-board, by this route from all the Western and North-Western States ... cheaper and better than by any other route, no one will charge its advocates with sectional or local views. If ever there was a truly national public work, this is one and it is questionable if, on the whole continent of America, a locality can be selected, where the same amount of money expended could benefit a larger portion of the Union, than at the site of the Niagara Ship Canal."
