Summary
Memorial from citizens of different states requesting that Virginia provide a guaranty for money needed to complete parts of the canal undertaken by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company. The memorial is addressed to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It begins, "The memorial of the undersigned, on behalf of a convention of citizens of the states of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and of the district of Columbia," and is signed, "On behalf of the committee of the convention. John J. Allen, Chairman."
Note
At the Internal Improvement Convention of 1834, groups were appointed to write to the legislatures of a few states, including Virginia, to seek further aid for work on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. Members appointed to memorialize the Legislature of Virginia were Messrs. John J. Allen, Andrew Kennedy, and others. See: Journal of the Internal Improvement Convention, which assembled in the city of Baltimore on the 8th Day of December, 1834, 1835.
