Report of the State Directors of the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal Company for the North Carolina General Assembly. Issues included work in the interest of a few stockholders only, fraudulent division of stock, and other financial and mismanagement problems. The report is signed by Matchet Taylor and K.R. Cobb, State Directors for the A. & C. Canal Co.

"I enclose herewith a report made to me by Matchet Taylor and K.E. Cobb, Engineers, Directors on the part of the State in the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal. I respectfully invite the attention of the General Assembly to the facts set forth in this report. I recommend that a Special Commission be constituted by the General Assembly to investigate the affairs of this Company, with power to send for persons and papers, and report to that body, so that the necessary steps may be taken to protect the interests of the State in the Company."--Page 1, Letter of transmittal from North Carolina Governor W.W.
