Summary
Report and resolutions of the Maryland House Committee on Grievances and Courts of Justice as it related to the constitutional rights of slaveholders and the cases of Bemis and others pending in the United States Supreme Court. After discussion the committee upheld the rights of states to determine what constitutes a crime and determined that other states must therefore return enslaved persons who are fugitives to owners. The report is signed by Wm. H. Tuck, Chairman. Mentions cases related to Nathan Bemis, Peter Johnson, Edward Smith, Isaac Gansey, John G. Colley, and Isaac (enslaved person).
