Six letters from James Robb of New Orleans regarding the internal improvement policy of the state, which were sent to the governor, and forwarded to the Committee on Internal Improvements. Topics covered: railroads, financing railroad companies and construction of railroads, the need for a cheaper mode of transportation other than railroads, and the great northern road (supported by the Governor of Mississippi). Robb proposes to improve transportation in the United States. "February 18th, 1856 ... I have received from Mr. James Robb, of the city of New Orleans, a series of letters, containing carefully considered views on the internal improvement policy of this State; they are highly interesting, and those portions which relate to united action, between Louisiana and Mississippi, being of immediate interest, should at once enlist the attention of both States. As the subject of these letters is one to which you have given much of your time, both as an engineer and a senator, I transmit them to you."--Letter of transmittal from Governor Robert C.
