Summary
Report submitted in response to a resolution of the Ohio Senate which requests information about canal tolls, tolls for the transport of salt, whether tolls are based on distance, tolls for different waterways, and tolls for salt coming from New York state. The report includes several tables that provide the requested information. Concluding paragraph: "It is believed the decrease in price, and consequent loss and embarrassment experienced by the Ohio salt manufacturers, may be principally traced to the extensive salt manufactories of Kanhawa, and to the alternate combination and competition where by they monopolize the salt trade of the Ohio river and its tributaries, by so reducing the price for a season, as to either cripple or entirely destroy the salt manufactories of this state, and sufficiently paralyze the first efforts of the New Yorkers in competing for a portion of the trade, to induce them to abandon the project as hopeless." The report is addressed to the Senate and is signed by William Rayen, President.
