Summary
"The standing committee on Public Institutions, to whom were referred the petitions and memorials of sundry citizens of Ohio, praying for the passage of a law repealing all laws imposing disabilities or restrictions on black and mulatto persons, and for a repeal of 'every statute denying or withholding any right or privilege from black persons which are enjoyed by whites:' also, for an extension of the rights of trial by jury, and to give the colored children the privileges of the common school law, have had the same under consideration, and now report. ... The committee, then, upon full and free consideration of all the reasons that have been presented to their minds in the examination of this delicate and exciting subject, have come to the conclusion, that it would be highly impolitic, on the part of the legislature, to take any action upon the subject prayed by the memorialists.
