1839 report by the Bank of Virginia and its branches (except one), in response to a temporary suspension of specie payments. Included are extracts of board of directors meetings and a statement of the amount of bills and notes offered for discounts from September 15th to the end of November 1839 or shortly thereafter.

Letter of transmittal from A. Robinson, Jr., Cashier, Bank of Virginia, is to N.E. Venable, Esq., Chairman of the Committee on Banks. It is dated January 1st, 1840.
