Summary
1841 memorial of the citizens of Kanawha, with statistical tables attached, submitted to the General Assembly. The memorialists submitted their grievance, complaining of the inequality of voting participation of the western portion of the state; the petition sought an uniform elective franchise. The Memorial was "unanimously adopted in county meeting, and subscribed by order and on behalf of the people of Kanawha, at the courthouse of the county, on the ninth day of August 1841."
Note
"At a meeting of the citizens of Kanawha county, convened at the courthouse, in pursuance of public notice, on the 9th of August 1841, Judge Summers was called to the chair, and Alexander W. Quarrier appointed secretary. The meeting having been called for the purpose of considering the inequalities of the representation in the general assembly, the chairman briefly explained the subjects for consideration, and the deep interest of the western people in a reapportionment and equalization of the senators and delegates composing our legislature."--Page 1.
