Summary
1839 Report of the Committee appointed to examine the charters of railroads and other chartered Virginia companies holding real estate to determine which are exempt from taxation due to those charters. Of note, after eliminating those specifically exempt, the committee subdivided its examination to review turnpikes, mining and manufacturing companies, railroads, and bridges and ferries.
Note
Letter of transmittal is from Josiah Holleman, President of the Board of Principle Assessors, to the Speaker of the House of Delegates, and is dated 19th December, 1839.
