Summary
Select Committee report regarding the proper disposition of public lands in the United States. After reviewing the situation, the committee's resolution included a call for an equitable distribution plan for the net proceeds of sales for any of these lands, as well as object to federal bills which would be in violation of the underlying principles regarding the public lands trusts.
Note
"According to the most authentic data within reach of your committee, the whole quantity of public lairds, within the territory of the United States amounts to 1,085,536,232 acres--the Indian title to 319,536,232 acres of which has been extinguished--and to 766,000,000 remains unextinguished. Of the 319,536,232 acres, 12,690,334 acres have been granted away to different states, and 77,134,821 have been sold, leaving at this time nearly one thousand millions of acres of land still remaining to be disposed of."--Page 1.
