Summary
May 27, 1774 communication from an association of past House of Burgesses members who urged, in solidarity with Boston and in response to Britain's treatment of that city, that the American colonies boycott the tea of the East India Company. In addition the association requested that the various Committees of Correspondence select and send delegates to a general Congress to decide what measures should be taken. Of note, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and Richard Henry Lee were a few of the eighty-nine members who signed this document. Also attached was an approval by various citizens of Virginia.
Note
Urging that "the unconstitutional principle of taxing the colonies without their consent will not be persisted in," and followed by letter of support from twenty-one clergymen and other inhabitants of Virginia.
